Off the Gringo Trail

Peru has been one of my favorite countries to travel in.  I've been there twice with Amy, the last time being in the fall of 2005.  We had a fabulous time seeing all the famous sites and especially hiking the Inca Trail.  But after our nephew Dan traveled to Peru a couple of years ago, he raved about the north and all the great sites to see there.  This is a place not traveled very much by foreign tourists, definitely off the 'Gringo Trail'.  But there are lots of things to see, including what is generally regarded as the second greatest ruin in Peru, after Machu Picchu.  The coast of northern Peru has colonial cities, wonderful music and very old ruins...some over 5,000 years old!  The Andes has small towns, an old, laid back lifestyle, and again, some very unusual and fantastic ruins.  There are original Inca roads that wander through the countryside in this part of the Andes.  We plan on finding some and hiking them.

Please check in from time to time and send us a note on the blog...Craig
